Q. What inspired you to start your business?

My career was everything to me, I had some serious ambitions for myself. But, after suffering from a subarachnoid brain haemorrhage in 2016, I’m extremely lucky to have made the recovery I have. I forced a quick recovery upon myself, then I was straight back to work as Head of Creative for a Branding Agency. But the flame had gone, managing a creative team just didn’t get me up in the morning, my view of work had changed. I missed following a project through, the passion and creativity, working closely with a business owner and seeing their joy as they launch their brand. I’d stopped actually doing what I loved. So that was it, I left my job and started Page + Looker, my sole purpose now is to support independent business owners make the right first impression, create a brand that captures their spirit and aspirations.

Q. Describe your typical day

My typical day starts with finding the perfect playlist to keep me motivated and inspired. Quick check of my emails and then straight into a project. If I’ve just started a branding project, I’ll be working on the brands vision. So, this is all about research and immersing myself into their industry, looking for that creative hook to help the brand stand out from anyone else, and be completely unique to them. Quite often this entails a research trip to an art gallery, museum or a general mooch around a city. I’ll plan that in or use what research I have from that trip to create a presentation which captives my client with their vision, target audience insight and creative direction. During all of this (if I’m at home) I’ll pause for lunch, make a few calls to clients, send out any media packs to enquiries. I do however pause throughout the day to check on Instagram, share creative with peers on Slack and WhatsApp – thank goodness for desktop WhatsApp!

Q. What has been the best moment of your business so far?

Ooo this is tough, I’ve had the pleasure of working on some amazing projects and found some lovely people who I now collaborate with. But I’d say it’s a very recent moment – I’ve just finished The Brand Stylist Elevate Programme, it was intense, awakening and a real confidence boost. Her feedback to my work has just been mind-blowing, to know an industry leader respects my work and creativity means that starting Page + Looker was the right thing to do.
