How to Have a Mid-Year Business Reset
When’s the last time you checked in with your business goals and dreams? Are you on track, heading off course, or ready to reroute completely?
As I’m writing this, we’re approaching the end of June – the midpoint of the year – and the UK is in the midst of a heatwave. Looking at the world outside my window, I’m struck by how different the view is compared to the beginning of the year. We’ve moved through multiple seasons since then. From winter to spring and onwards into summer. It’s a powerful reminder of just how much can change in six months.
Why Your Business Needs a Mid-Year Reset
Just like the view outside my window, you’re not the same person you were in January. Let me explain.
You may have set some gentle goals at the beginning of the year. Maybe you’ve been tracking your progress on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis – or perhaps those goals have become a little lost amongst the realities of running your business. Every now and then you need to zoom out completely. You need to review the very things you’re working so hard to achieve.
With this in mind, I’m going to walk you through a simple process designed to help you enter the second half of the year with renewed clarity and focus.
Before we begin, bear in mind a business reset doesn’t need to be dramatic. I’m not suggesting you burn everything to the ground! It can be as simple as reaffirming your commitment to certain goals and/or intentionally letting others go.
A Brief Note on Timing
If you’ve landed here at the ‘wrong’ time of year, or you tend to be super busy during the summer, let me reassure you – you can hit the reset button in your business whenever you want. As long as you’ve got goals or intentions to review, and a means of measuring your progress, you’re good to go!
In fact, September has always been one of my favourite times of year for exactly this reason.
There’s something about the shift from summer into autumn – the return to familiar routines, that ‘back to school’ feeling and the final few months of the year stretching ahead – that creates a natural opportunity to pause and take stock.
It doesn’t have to be about getting ‘back to work’ or suddenly becoming more productive. Instead, think of it as an opportunity to get back to what matters.
What do you want from the remainder of the year? What has changed since January? And what might you choose to do differently now?
This year, I’m embracing that feeling with The September Reset – a small number of dedicated coaching appointments for business owners who want to create the space to think, refocus and move forward with greater clarity and intention.
More on that below.

How to Have a Mid-Year Business Reset
Step. 1 – Review
First, you need to reengage with the hopes and dreams you had for the year ahead.
If you haven’t been tracking your progress on a regular basis, this might mean digging out an old notebook, dusting off a vision board, or unearthing goals you’ve forgotten setting! Please don’t worry if this is the case. It’s very common and easily done if you haven’t established a habit or ritual around reviewing your goals. This is exactly what we’re creating here.
Next, spend some time gathering data or other evidence of your progress. Even if you haven’t thought about them in six months, you might find you’ve been working towards certain goals subconsciously.
Step. 2 – Reflect
Once you’ve reviewed your goals and measured your progress, it’s time to reflect on what this means for you and your business. Are these goals still relevant? Do they reflect your current season of life? Are you taking small steps to achieve them, or are you struggling to build momentum?
Journaling is always my favourite way to tackle these sorts of questions. You can read more about my personal practice and download my free toolkit here >>> My Guide to Unlocking the Power of Journaling for Business Owners.
For this specific task, you might find the following prompts helpful:
- Looking back at the goals I set in January, which ones are still exciting and aligned with my current vision?
- Where did I stall in the first half of the year? Why? Was it a lack of resources, lack of interest, or something else?
- What tasks or projects have been draining my energy? Are there any goals that no longer fit?
- If I had unlimited resources (time, money, energy) for the next six months, what is the number one project I would pursue? How can I take one small step towards this today?

Step. 3 – Recalibrate
This is the most important step. Based on everything you’ve done so far, what needs to shift and change in your business? Keep it simple – you don’t want to overwhelm yourself.
For example, you could try making a list of things you’re going to keep doing versus things you’re going to stop doing.
If ‘be more visible’ is the goal, your list might include things like:
- I’m going to keep attending in-person networking events, and I’m going to stop trying to post on Instagram every day.
- I’m going to keep writing for my business blog, and I’m going to stop overthinking my content plan.I’m going to keep shooting video for Instagram Reels, and
- I’m going to stop worrying about how I look on camera.
Alternatively, you can simply update your gentle goals for the rest of the year. Put a line through any that no longer resonate, add some new intentions, and start mapping out the steps you need to take in order to achieve them. Ask yourself the following questions:
- What do I want to achieve by the end of the year?
- What can I do now to make that happen?

Ready to Create Some Space to Think?
You can absolutely work through this reset on your own. Sometimes, simply giving yourself permission to step away from the day-to-day and ask some thoughtful questions is enough to bring things back into focus.
But sometimes it helps to have someone else in the room. Someone to listen, ask the questions you may not have thought to ask yourself, challenge your thinking where needed and help you turn all those thoughts and ideas into clear, practical next steps.
That’s exactly what The September Reset is designed to offer.
Throughout September, I’m opening a small number of appointments for two ways to work with me:
- Clarity Sessions – focused 90-minute sessions for when you have a particular challenge, opportunity or decision you’d like to work through and want to leave with greater clarity and a practical way forward.
- Refresh & Shine Days – dedicated one-to-one days for when you’re ready to step away from the day-to-day, look at the bigger picture and spend meaningful time thinking about your business, your priorities and what comes next.
Both give you something that can be surprisingly difficult to find when you’re busy running a business:
Space to think.
If you reserve your September Reset before 31 July, I’ll also include a complimentary 45-minute follow-up coaching session, giving us the opportunity to reconnect, review your progress and build on the work we’ve done together.
Refresh & Shine Days can also be secured with two instalments – one when you reserve your appointment and the balance in September before we meet.
If September feels like the right moment to pause, recalibrate and decide what you want from the rest of the year, I’d love to work with you.
